    BIOGRAPHY: Doris' children and several sources list her birthday as 6/2/1833 or 6/2/1834. However, in the register of members of Trinity Lutheran Church, Ida Co, IA, she lists her birthday as 12/2/1834.

    BIOGRAPHY: Doris came with her parents' family to America from Preetz, Holstein, Prussia (Germany). They sailed from Hamburg on April 12, 1847 aboard the bark "Harriett" aka "Henrietta". They arrived in New Orleans on June 9, 1847. Another passenger's diary of this voyage can be found at http://www.celticcousins.net/scott/henrietta1847trip.htm. Unusually, the same ship took them up the Mississippi to St Louis and on to Davenport according to the diary. A history of the ship is at http://www.geocities.com/mppraetorius/com-ha.htm.

    BIOGRAPHY: Another Holstein family, the Blocker's arrived on another ship at very nearly the same time. Although we don't know for sure, it's likely that Hans Kroeger and Sophia Blocher died at some point along the way. By 1850, the surviving spouses have married and are found living together (like the Brady Bunch) in the 1850 and 1860 censuses for Scott Co, IA.

    BIOGRAPHY: Doris brought the ties even closer by first marrying her step-brother, Henry Christian Blocker, in 1850. Henry C. Blocker died sometime between 11/4/1850 and 6/8/1852.

    BIOGRAPHY: Doris remarried to Diedrich Funderman. The two bought 2.5 acres of land from Doris' parents for $ 50 in 1853.

    CENSUS: Appears on 1850 census for District 4, Scott Co, IA, Dwelling # 430, image p. 64. Her step-brother who will soon become her husband is in the same dwelling.

    A Johannes Kroeger, spoke at the funeral services for Ernestine Denker
    at Davenport, Iowa in 1908. He is listed in the German writing of the
    church paper as a "truen" (father?) He has no know direct relationship
    with Ernestine, but Ernestine's daughter Selma (German article lists as
    Zelina), married the grandson of Margaret Kroeger, wife of Henry F.
    Schlotfeldt. Margaret's Father's name is not known as of 1996, but
    it is doubtful that a Great-grandfather Kroeger who would have been
    born about 1820, would have been around in 1908 to give "deeply
    moving speeches at the family home and gravesite". But it's
    not impossible, that would put him in his 80s.

    Chain: Hans Henry>Henry F.& wife Margaret "Anna" Kroeger. This is Margaret's sister. We have been lucky enough to find a picture of Hans Henry Schlotfeldt, born 1808 in Klein Flintbek, and his wife Catherin Margaret Stoltenberg. We also have pictures of many of their Grandchildren, but NONE of their children. In this case, the missing child photo would be of my Great Grandfather Henry F. Schlotfeldt (who came to the U.S. with Hans and Catherine) and his wife Margaret "Anna" Kroeger. We are still searching and hope that time hasn't escaped us with folks throwing away photos they couldn't identify. BUT...Thanks to SHIRLEY PATRICK who found us while chasing down the Kroeger family, we now have a picture of Margaret's sister, DORIS. (Shirley is descended from Doris and has been a Great! help in research of this branch.) Doris Kroeger, immigrated to Davenport, Iowa from Postfeld, Preetz,Germany with her family. Naturally, she is very good looking, as are all women who marry into the Schlotfeldt family, their daughters, mothers, sisters, cousins and friends! :-) This photo at least gives us an inside look at Margaret's family. Margaret's father died shortly after they arrived, her mother died in Germany 11 days after she was born. Her stepmother, Dora (nee Sievert)came to America with Hans and the family, She remarried and had additional children, so we have additional half-cousins from that side of the family. Their searching turned up this picture for us. If any of you have any leads for a picture of Henry F. & Margaret or the other kinder, please pursue them. Thanks so much, we keep hoping.     This photo from an article in the Sioux City, Iowa newpaper turned up from a family member after the author had been searching for a long time through other sources. The family story was that Adolph "Ottie" Schlotfeldt, son of Henry F. Schlotfeldt had been found shot "mysteriously" in Sioux City and we had only a year of 1911. We still haven't found the details but now can get closer. On the back of this photo it discusses Arizona's first statehood election being held the day Ottie was killed. Arizona historical archives indicate that date to be Dec. 12, 1911. We now know the date. Interesting "jigsaw" pieces of the Genealogy process.
