George W. Gerber of Phoenix, Arizona, passed away on May 2, 2005. He was born on March 9, 1913, in Oneida, Kansas, the son of Fred and Emma Gerber. He is survived by Arline, his wife of twenty-five years; his children Suzanne Keown (Lee), Bruce (Susan), and Chris (Nanette); and grandchildren Amy Jatinen (John), Randy, and Patrick. He is preceded in death by Wilma, his first wife of forty-one years, and a grandchild Nicholas. George was retired after 38 years with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, beginning as a County Agent after graduation from Kansas State University in 1936 with a degree in agriculture. He returned to KSU later in his career to serve on the faculty in Dairy Marketing. George also received his commission of Second Lieutenant in 1936 as a graduate of the Army ROTC Program at KSU. He served in World War II and the Korean War and had achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel at the time of his retirement from the Army. George moved his family to Phoenix in 1956, where he was the Arizona Milk Market Administrator for the USDA. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, May 7 at Paradise-Sunset Chapel, 3934 East Indian School Road. Visitation will be from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, with a memorial service at 12 pm. Interment will follow at Greenwood Memory Lawn Cemetery. Donations in lieu of flowers are requested to the Arizona Heart Foundation, 2632 North 20th Street, Phoenix, 85006.
